Artist's Biography
Contemporary landscape artist, Tonya Zenin was born in the Far East of
Russia. Tonya’s artistic training began at age 6 and she has been drawing
and painting ever since. By age 10, she was honored to be selected for the
highly competitive Children's Art school in Khabarovsk and began her
training in the studio of noted instructors and artists.
Tonya pursued her interest in art at College of Fine Arts, Khabarovsk
where she developed her skills in draftsmanship and in the painterly use
of oils. Her studies expanded her knowledge in composition, form and
design. She graduated in 1996 earning a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic
Arts. In 1997, Tonya moved to Northern California. During the ensuing
decade she developed a promising career in web and graphic design,
meanwhile she relentlessly devoted more and more time to working with
oils. In addition to active painting with the BACPAC group, she pursued
advanced studies in Plein Air Landscape at the California Academy of
Painters with noted artist Brigitte Curt, as well as taking workshops and
master classes with nationally known artists Brian Blood, Frank Serrano,
Bill Davidson and Ovanes Berberian.
Although the majority of Tonya’s painting is done on location Alla Prima,
where the accent is on the observation of nature and its great principles,
Tonya also enjoys painting in her studio. There she creates her larger
paintings from the outdoor field sketches, giving her an opportunity to
develop a body of work nourished by her imagination. Tonya now paints for
gallery exhibitions and local and out-of-state juried shows. Tonya’s
current work is shown at Silvana Gallery in Glendale and her paintings are
in private collections in California and throughout the United States, as
well as in Russia.
