Yosemite View Lodge, El Portal, CA.

If everything in the valley is booked, or just to save a decent amount of mula, a nice hotel just outside the park,
and only 13 miles from Yosemite valley, is the Yosemite View Lodge in the town of El Portal. Has double queens with kitchenette, TV and coffee maker.
During 'low season', Nov. 1 - March 30th, is only $150, $250 high season (uploaded here as of 2023). That's for the 'mountain view' rooms, the 'river view run $70 more per either season).

NOTE: A direct call nets you a lower price (like $80) over their online reservation form!!!

Note: usually, there is no cell phone reception in El Portal, but for a fee WiFi is available.

There are a few other hotels located in this town, with even lower prices,
but are another 5 or 10 minutes further down the hill.
 

Staying the night before class starts near the park.

From the south- Oakhurst (1.5 hours from Yosemite Valley)

If you are coming from the south, you can stay in many places in Oakhurst on Thursday night.
Rooms start at $55 thru Priceline- Mountain Trail Lodge and Vacation Rentals. 3 miles from Oakhurst.
Many at $79-$89 in Downtown Oakhurst. Of course, you could stay here Sunday night too, after the class & drive back on Monday.

From the north- Merced (2 hours away),
or Mariposa, very nice mountain town, even closer at 1 hour 15 min..
