| The lovely bride/assistant Valerie and I took the train
from Cuzco to the ‘base camp’ of Machu Picchu and then a bus up the final
couple of miles to survey these ruins by mid-day. So many
tourists…looked like ants covering a sugar cube. I decided to take the
first bus up the next day to alleviate the problem. Erroneous departure
time info caused two bus loads to beat me. Ouch. After leaving the bus I
ran up the two hundred yards to try and beat a few of them. My sudden
burst of energy left me literally drowning in that oxygen scarce
atmosphere at 8,000 feet- I honestly thought I’d die for a moment. |
