On Wednesday, October the 2nd the Museum of Photographic Art, San
Diego, held
it's bi-annual auction. This year they auctioned off photographs. Previous
years it had been a wine auction, so I was thrilled it was for art.
It was so much fun and I met a lot of new folks,
and said hi to old friends. A $75 donation, for members, which I am, got you in
and included an open bar, and it ran from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m..
A couple of hundred patrons took part and a lot of donated art was auctioned
off, which will help school programs, as well as senior programs, they
administer there and off premises.

Here are
some images
I took with my iPhone, and some MOPA photographer Stacy took.

After paying my entry fee, and getting
a glass of cPhil and Margaret Ham were nice enough to share their table with me
so I could eat the wonderful hors d'oeuvres that were served. They've been
volunteers since the museum opened they said. They also mentioned they had been
to our Del Mar Gallery.

While chatting with Phillip Scholtz
Rittermann, a photographer and old acquaintance a gentleman came up and I was
introduced to him. His name was Gary Singer and we toured the museum while he
pointed out the art he'd bid on, and I critiqued them as he did.
Come to find out he is an
artist/architect, and about 2/3rds around the space someone came up and informed
him that as THE DIRECTORS HUSBAND he had a conflict of interest and he would not
be able to bid. Funny, I think he knew it, but I was amazed at my luck as I then
asked me to introduce me to his wife, I'd not met her yet (she's fairly new at
the position, comparatively speaking).

Retired
director Arthur Ollman showed up towards the end of the night and I snagged a
shot of him and Phillip. Phillip had a piece he donated and it raised over
$5,000 during the live auction. I mentioned how tough it is when your in
attendance when it goes to the gavel, you want it to go for as much as possible.

I hold up my 'paddle', practicing so I'll be ready to
outbid the millionaires that showed. Bottom line, I did not add anything to my
collection.

I pose with artist/architect Gary Singer and his
wife/director of M.O.P.A. Deborah Klochko. They moved here from San Francisco
about six years ago, when she became the director. Info from the Union Tribune
